When poured into a glass, the Amarone displays a robust ruby red hue, accompanied by a bouquet reminiscent of raisins, sweet jam, and spices. As it caresses the palate, it reveals a full-bodied, supple texture that lingers persistently. The tannic suppleness of this wine is truly excellent, adding to its overall appeal. It is no wonder that the Amarone of Valpolicella Ferragù is often enjoyed during moments of peaceful contemplation, as it is best savoured on its own.

Despite its ability to command attention with its body and personality, the Amarone can be harmoniously paired with rich dishes such as aged cheese, venison, roast, braised meat, and stew. It effortlessly complements the flavors of these hearty culinary delights.

Furthermore, it is worth mentioning that the Amarone is the perfect companion for a typical Veneto dish, the "Risotto all'Amarone." This traditional dish, enhanced by the rich flavours of the Amarone wine, is a culinary experience to behold.

The expression of Amarone wine offered by the Ferragù estate is truly exceptional. It boasts a full-bodied and powerful character, staying true to the essence of this type of wine. The intense red color, adorned with garnet hues, captures the eye. To fully appreciate its complexities, it is highly recommended to allow the wine to breathe for a couple of hours, or even longer.

Upon further exploration, an intense bouquet unfolds, revealing notes of dark fruit, earthiness, spices, oak, and aging characteristics. As it dances on the palate, flavours of marzipan, balsamic, eucalyptus, tobacco, pepper, and leather intertwine. With each passing moment, the wine evolves, offering glimpses of blackberry, chocolate, and oak. The finish is undeniably long, leaving a lasting impression on the senses.

It comes as no surprise that this Amarone is so highly rated as it is truly remarkable. Its complexity rivals that of renowned wineries such as Dal Forno Romano or Quintarelli, making it a standout in its own right. The Amarone of Valpolicella Ferragù is a testament to the artistry and dedication of the Ferragù estate, and a delight for all wine enthusiasts seeking an extraordinary experience.

The Winery

The Ferragu estate is widely known as one of the best producers of Valpolicella in the Illasi Valley and this stunning Valpolicella Superiore is no exception. The family’s 8 hectares of vines produce limited quantities of quality Valpolicella and Amarone which are exported around the world. The Ferragu estate is widely known as one of the best producers of Valpolicella in the Illasi Valley and this stunning Valpolicella Superiore is no exception. The winery is run by three brothers, Carlo, Ornello and Angelo, along with their children and grandchildren who are also involved in the family business. The family’s 8 hectares of vines produce limited quantities of quality Valpolicella and Amarone which are exported around the world.

The Corvinone, Corvina and Rondinella grapes used in this Valpolicella Superiore are harvested by hand and left to dry for 30 days to concentrate the flavours and sugars. They are then fermented in stainless steel tanks and subsequently matured in American oak barrels for 12 months. The wine is then bottled and matured for an additional 6 months before it is deemed ready for release.

The rich ruby hue of this Valpolicella immediately catches the eye, while the nose offers seductive aromas of red cherry, baking spice and sweet vanilla. On the palate there is a firm structure, intense red fruit, wild berry jam and toast flavours which are carefully balanced by a fresh acidity. This gastronomic wine is an ideal partner for red meats like steak, venison or roasted lamb or a generous platter of cheese and charcuterie.
